San Jacinto

Standing nearly 11,000 feet above sea level, the deeply weathered summit of Mount San Jacinto stands as the highest point in the San Jacinto Range and second highest in Southern California. About a two hour drive from Los Angeles or San Diego, the granite peaks, sub-alpine forests, and fern-bordered mountain meadows offer visitors a unique opportunity for exploration and enjoyment of a breathtaking scenic, high-country wilderness area. Two drive-in campgrounds are located near the town of Idyllwild. Hikers and backpackers are welcome as most of the park is a designated wilderness area.

San Jacinto Valley Museum is located in historic downtown San Jacinto near the Vosburg Hotel and the Virginia Lee Hotel. The San Jacinto Museum stands as a landmark for community support and initiative. Founded in 1939 by interested and passionate citizens the museum was kept open in 1978 by another generation of equally concerned citizens. The museum contains artifacts from the area including the famous landing of a Russian plane in a field nearby. They also have a cast of the famous Hemet Maze Stone.
